Questions
Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about visiting, leagues, ratings, coaching, and house rules — the way the club actually runs week to week.
Visiting the club
Do I need a membership to play?
No. Non-members are welcome any time with a $10 day pass — sign in and pay online before you come, or scan the QR code at the club when you arrive. Members play free during all open hours, and the day pass is waived.
See membership plans →Can I come alone?
Yes. Grab the $10 day pass — pay online or scan the QR code at the door — and jump into open play; matches are pickup, and when the hall is busy, tables rotate every 30 minutes or one best-of-five, so you'll get games.
For guaranteed matches at your level, the weekly leagues are rating-banded — and the Feeder League takes players with no rating at all.
About the leagues →I've never played seriously — is an academy too much for me?
No. The coaching pathway starts at a 0 rating, the Adult Beginner class meets Wednesdays 8–9 p.m. with Coach Sean, and Saturday's youth FUN Group takes brand-new juniors. The Feeder League (USATT 0–999) is where unrated players play their first real matches.
Or skip the structure entirely: a $10 day pass and an evening of open play is a fine way to find out whether the game grabs you.
See the coaching pathway →What are your hours?
The hall is open every day, 10:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Leagues and group classes reserve tables at set times each week, so check the schedule before you come for open play.
View the weekly schedule →When are tables free for open play?
Any open hours outside league and class blocks. Tables are in league use on Monday and Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons, and the Pro Group trains Thursday 6:10–8:10 p.m. During group lessons, some tables usually stay free for members.
When the hall is busy, players waiting may ask for a rotation — sessions are limited to 30 minutes or one best-of-five match.
Do I need my own paddle and shoes?
Bring whatever you have to start — the club has balls, and members may use three to five club balls free of charge.
For regular training, our coaches recommend proper table tennis shoes (running shoes are built for forward movement, not lateral footwork) and a real performance racket rather than a toy-store paddle. The club can order Butterfly equipment for you at member discounts and stocks official tournament balls.
Leagues
Which league should I join?
CITTA runs three weekly rating-banded leagues: the Feeder League for USATT 0–999 (learning competition), the Contender League for 1000–1800, and the Star Contender League for 1800–2400. Seasons run about eight weeks.
New to competition or unrated? Start in the Feeder League — you'll earn an initial USATT league rating from your first weeks of play.
About the CITTA Dreams League →When are league nights?
Contender League plays Mondays at 6:10 p.m., Feeder League plays Friday evenings, and Star Contender plays Sundays at 2:30 p.m.
How do I register for a league season?
League registration runs through Stadium Compete — the club posts the registration link before each season. Registering and paying for the full season gets you priority in group placement; single sessions are available as space allows, at $10 for members and $15 for non-members.
CITTA members: the posted online price is the non-member rate, so check with the club before paying and member pricing will be applied to your registration.
What if I can't make a league week?
Let the club group know in advance and a substitute can take your matches so your group still gets full play. Sub results don't count toward league standings or USATT ratings — for the sub, the absent player, or their opponents.
Members can sub for free up to twice per season; from the third appearance the regular single-event entry fee applies (or register under your own name so your results count). Non-member subs pay the $10 day pass. Sunday Star Contender subs need a rating of 1600 or above.
How do promotions between leagues work?
Win your Feeder League season — or reach a 1000+ league rating — and you're promoted to the Contender League. The Contender champion is promoted to the Sunday Star Contender League.
Within Star Contender, groups reshuffle weekly: the top two players in each group move up a group, and the bottom two move down. Season podium finishers earn cash prizes and medals.
Do leagues run on holidays or in bad weather?
Yes, unless announced otherwise. Around holidays and severe weather the club polls players, announces any cancellation in the club WhatsApp group, and adds a make-up week to the season. Even when a league night is cancelled, the hall usually stays open for open play.
Ratings & USATT
Do I need a USATT membership to play league?
Yes — all CITTA leagues are USATT-rated, so every player needs a USATT membership (basic membership is $25 per year). It has to be active when you play: USATT only rates results from matches played while your membership was current. Coach Yu can help you buy or renew one.
Where do I see my rating?
League results are uploaded to USATT after each week of play. Look yourself up on the official USATT ratings site; the Stadium Compete league page also shows league ratings.

How do I book a private lesson?
Check coach availability and book directly on the website, or reach out to a coach to set up a time — coaches also announce open slots in the club group. Rates and 10-hour packages are on the pricing page.
Lesson rates & packages →What group classes run each week?
The Pro Group (advanced) trains Thursdays 6:10–8:10 p.m. Saturdays bring the youth Fun Group at 3 p.m., the youth Pro/Intermediate Group at 4 p.m., and the Adult Intermediate class 1:00–2:30 p.m.
The Adult Beginner group meets Wednesdays 8–9 p.m. with Coach Sean, registered by the month with drop-ins welcome. Monthly classes run with a minimum of three students and are non-refundable with no make-up classes.
View the weekly schedule →Do you run camps?
Yes. Summer camp runs weekly all summer — full day (9 a.m.–4 p.m.) or half day. The club also runs three-day holiday camps over Thanksgiving and winter break, typically 1–4 p.m. at $50 per day or $120 for all three days.
Camps welcome everyone from competition-bound athletes to complete beginners. Register by phone or email with the club.
Camp & program pricing →Tournaments & house rules
Does CITTA host sanctioned tournaments?
Yes — CITTA hosts USATT-sanctioned 1-star tournaments with rating-capped events (from U-1000 up to Open), limited fields, and cash prizes, and aims to host them regularly.
On tournament days, enter through the back entrance; the hall opens at 8 a.m. for warm-up.
What are the house rules?
Multi-ball training and the training equipment that goes with it (nets, ball boxes, pickers) are reserved for coaching sessions, and multi-ball and robot practice pause while lessons are in progress. Members may use three to five club balls at a time — please return everything to its place afterward.
Wipe down your table after your last match, bin your trash, and keep language and conduct family-friendly — CITTA is an all-ages hall. When others are waiting, rotate after 30 minutes or one best-of-five.
